Each week IGI Global is releasing a huge volume of open access (OA) scholarly articles and book chapters out into the open research community. Now, more than ever, it is critical that those freely accessible manuscripts become disseminated and discoverable as is their intended use.
Repositories are one of the many ways for researchers to gain recognition and maximum exposure for their work. For copyrighted material, there are generally limitations to where authors can post their work (View IGI Global’s
Fair Use Policy), but for OA content, under Creative Commons licensing, the opportunities are truly endless. While IGI Global will work to share OA research content out with a multitude of known repositories, authors are also encouraged to share their OA research out as frequently
as possible.
OA repositories in particular offer a digital platform that stores research and provides free, immediate, and permanent access to research – content can be accessed, downloaded, and distributed. Most OA repositories and resources are free to use and only require signing up for an account to get started.
Here are just a few platforms that offer open sharing of scholarly resources:

- Academia.edu - A platform for sharing academic research. Academia’s goal is to ensure that every paper, ever written, is on the internet, available for free. 28 million papers have been uploaded to Academia.edu. Get Started

- arXiv.org – Hosted by Cornell University, arXiv is a free distribution service and an open access archive for nearly two million scholarly articles in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering and systems science, and economics. - Unpaywall.org – From OurResearch (formerly ImpactStory) comes Unpaywall. Unpaywall is a service that maintains a database of links to full-text articles from open access sources all over the world. The content is harvested from legal sources including repositories run by universities, governments, and scholarly societies, as well as open content hosted by publishers themselves. Get Started

- ResearchGate.net – ResearchGate is a European commercial social networking site for researchers to share their work, ask questions, and find potential collaborators. ResearchGate aims to empower and put the researcher first. Get Started
By utilizing IGI Global’s OA opportunities and integrating your work with such repositories like arXiv or connecting your research with others through ResearchGate, there are no boundaries to how far your research can go.

Additionally, IGI Global offers a variety of
Author Services to support IGI Global contributors in improving the quality of their work, which of course can then also increase its potential for acceptance. These services including English language copy editing and proofreading as well as figure, table, chart, and equation conversions. Any author or editor who chooses to utilize IGI Global’s Author Services can have the amount paid for the services deducted from the open access processing charges if they choose to publish their work under open access, effectively making the author services “free”.
IGI Global strives to make OA affordable and accessible to all. We encourage researchers to submit their work as OA for increased discoverability and sharing opportunities. For more information about OA publishing or getting started with OA repositories, please contact our Open Access Division at
